Mixed media installation with Yunus Arakani (In development)

Set in a touristy beachfront café (warung) facing projected archival footage of a Rohingya refugee boat’s arrival, a motorized Acehnese fishing rope repeatedly strikes a pool of water. Seated in café chairs, visitors confront the ambivalence of power and powerlessness, watching the repeated attempts to pull the vessel while listening to the cold, mechanical sound of futile tugs, tethered in a state of rejection at sea.
